Sleeping Hot? Here's How You Cool Down Your Mattress

We all know how uncomfortable it is to sleep on a hot mattress. The humid and sweaty feeling that you get when lying on your bed causes you to endlessly toss and turn and feel restless throughout the night. Given how hot our climate can be, it's critical to devise some methods for saying goodbye to hot and uncomfortable nights.

Here are some quick tips to cool down your mattress in Singapore.

Mattress Cooling Tips

Check Your Mattress Foundation

Check Your Mattress Foundation

Make sure that your mattress foundation allows air to freely flow around your mattress. When buying a bed frame, choose one with an equally spaced board base to ensure that your mattress will receive ample ventilation.

Add a Cooling Mattress Topper

Introducing a cooling mattress topper to your bedding layers is a great way to alter the feel of your mattress. This extra layer provides additional comfort while providing an instant cooling sensation for a cosier sleep. A mattress topper is highly comfortable and easy to clean, making it a reliable protective layer for your mattress.

Use a Mattress Pad

A great way to cool down your mattress without changing its feel is by using a mattress pad. A mattress pad is a thinner cushion that you can put on top of your mattress to offer heat regulation while adding some protection to your bed. This excellent bedding item can be made from cotton and other breathable materials that can help wick away moisture.

Your choice of bedding makes a huge difference in how breathable your sleep surface can be. To prevent uncomfortable and sweaty nights, choose bed sheets and blankets that are made from high-quality cotton or Tencel fabric. These are extremely comfortable and great for wicking away moisture.

Buy Some Cooling Pillows

Aside from your mattress, your pillows might also be causing you to sleep hot. Like the body, the head and neck are also sensitive to heat, making it extremely uncomfortable when they rest on a hot pillow.

Reliable pillows are not just soft but also lightweight and breathable. If you are a hot sleeper, choose a pillow that will not only support your body but will also keep you well rested. Cotton and latex pillows are some of the most comfortable and breathable varieties for hot sleepers.

Cool Your Room Down

The most effective way to keep your mattress cool is to maintain an optimum temperature in your bedroom. Ideally, your body needs to reach a cooler temperature to begin its restful mode. Before going to bed, we recommend maintaining a temperature of at least 18 °C. You may achieve it by setting your air conditioner's temperature or setting your ceiling fan to a counterclockwise function to push the cooler air downward. You may also use an air cooler or add some ice cubes where the electric fan's air flow is headed to circulate cooler air.

Open Your Room’s Windows

Create a cross breeze by positioning your electric fan near the window. This will provide some extra airflow for your bedroom.

Sleep in Breathable Clothes

Sleep in Breathable Clothes

To sleep comfy and stay comfy, we recommend sleeping in light and airy pyjamas made from quality moisture-wicking materials like cotton, bamboo, or linen. We do not recommend sleeping without clothes if you’re a hot sleeper. This will only give you direct contact with your hot mattress without extra fabrics that can absorb your sweat.

Invest in a Breathable Mattress

Sometimes, the lack of airflow within your mattress is caused by sagging components that block the air from circulating. If your bed is lumpy, saggy, and already over 6–8 years old, it’s time to invest in a new mattress.

To get a breathable mattress, choose one with an open cell structure to allow proper air movement around the bed. Innerspring mattresses do an excellent job of promoting proper ventilation within their structure. Latex mattresses are also naturally breathable.

While we love the comfort of a memory foam mattress, it is not the best solution for hot sleepers due to its body heat retention property. To enjoy the conforming qualities of a memory foam mattress, opt for a cooling gel memory foam or a hybrid variety with memory foam and cooling layers.

You can also try some mattresses in Singapore that are specially designed for hot sleepers. If you’re ready to buy a new bed, check out various specialised cooling mattresses online to provide you with a cooler sleep upfront.
